NAVIGO Fisheries Museum

The NAVIGO Fisheries Museum in Koksijde is a museum dedicated to fishing and local fishermen. The museum showcases the long history of North Sea fishermen and features a striking highlight: the skeleton of a 13-meter-long sperm whale that washed ashore in Sint-André, named Valentijn. The museum reopened its doors in September 2024 after a thorough renovation and expansion. Prihoda had the opportunity to supply textile ducts for the ventilation, cooling, and heating of two rooms in the museum. Room 1 features a distinctive photo collection by Stephan Vanfleteren, and Room 2 displays the skeleton of the sperm whale Valentijn.

Innovative HVAC solution with Prihoda textile ducts

For this project, we installed Prihoda textile ducts in the NAVIGO Fisheries Museum, meeting all the museum’s requirements to make the visitor experience as pleasant as possible. The goal was to distribute 9,000 cubic meters of air per hour as evenly and quietly as possible throughout the museum. We achieve this with custom-made textile ducts.

For this project, four ducts were installed:

Duct 1:

  • Length: 22 meters
  • Shape: diameter 400 mm (Round)
  • Air volume: 2333 m³/h
  • Color: light grey
  • Suspension: rail with strip and tensioner + threaded rod
  • Location: Sperm whale room

Duct 2:

  • Length: 22 meters
  • Shape: diameter 400 mm (Round)
  • Air volume: 2333 m³/h
  • Color: light grey
  • Suspension: rail with strip and tensioner + threaded rod
  • Location: Sperm whale room

Duct 3:

  • Length: 21,9 meters
  • Shape: diameter 400 mm (Round)
  • Air volume: 2333 m³/h
  • Color: light grey
  • Suspension: rail with strip and tensioner + threaded rod
  • Location: Sperm whale room

Duct 4:

  • Length: 3,9 + 13 meters
  • Shape: diameter 500 mm (Round)
  • Air volume: 3000 m³/h
  • Color: light grey
  • Suspension: rail with strip and tensioner + threaded rod
  • Location: Sperm whale room

Key specifications of the system:

Diffusion technology:

In the museum halls, it is important that the air is distributed evenly and silently, while maintaining a pleasant temperature. This ensures the most enjoyable experience for visitors. Prihoda's textile ducts make this possible through a combination of micro and standard perforations. All four ducts distribute air using both types of perforations.

Aesthetics & branding:

The ducts are finished in light grey, a serene and subtle color that perfectly fits the environment in which they are installed. Each duct is equipped with a tensioner to ensure it stays taut at all times.

Textile elements:

The ducts are made from 100% polyester. Polyester is air-permeable, which means there’s no risk of condensation forming on the surface of the diffusers. That’s a clear advantage for the lifespan of the ducts!

Suspension systems & customization:

The ducts are suspended using a strip attached to the duct itself, which slides into a rail. The rail is fixed to the ceiling with threaded rods. A tensioner within the rail keeps the duct nicely stretched.
